NHS Blood and Transplant are a special health authority, dealing in blood and organ related products. Managing blood, platelet, organ, stem cell and tissue donation and transplantation across the UK. In more recent times NHS Blood and Transplant have been leading a programme on behalf of the Government to collect blood plasma from recovered coronavirus patients for critical clinical trials. There are currently 6000 employees spread nationwide, with 15 transport operating centres based in England alone, running a mixed fleet of 330 vehicles.

Transcan, the industry’s leading refrigerated vehicle temperature monitoring solution, provides vehicles worldwide with a fully integrated temperature data logger. From thermal printed receipts, to integrated tracking, NHS Blood and Transplant have used Transcan’s temperature data loggers for over a decade. Recently, NHS Blood and Transplant have made the move from Transcan 2, to the Transcan Advance unit. Offering a higher level of functionality with up to 8 independent temperature sensors with in-cab and mobile alerting, full integration into the web-based telematics platform, and high-speed thermal printing for proof of temperature.

Tom Hammond, National Fleet Services Manager for NHS Blood and Transplant commented “After committing to strategic software and hardware IT updates to strengthen our defence against cyber-attacks, it felt like a natural progression to also introduce the Transcan Advance to our fleets.” Tom continued, “Due to the critical nature of our product, the window of opportunity to correct any issues with the temperature during transport is very small. Upgrading to the Transcan Advance gave us greater visibility of the multiple temperature thresholds, with in-cab alerting for immediate action by the driver. Our fleet is currently being retrofitted with Connexas’ tracking and telematics for real-time temperature logging and full online reporting via the web-based platform.”

Andrew Overton, CEO for Connexas said “We are incredibly proud to continue to support NHS Blood and Transplant with the absolutely critical work they do saving and transforming their patients’ lives. Being able to provide our customers with a reliable and accurate temperature data logger that enables their fleets to operate safely and in compliance with all government regulations is an important focus for us at Connexas. I look forward to continuing our partnership with NHS Blood and Transplant in the future.”
